| Western Painted Turtle becomes Colorado's state reptile According to a press release from the office of Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, the Western Painted Turtle is now the official reptile of Colorado. House Bill 08-1017, sponsored by Representative Cherilyn Peniston and Senator Jennifer Veiga, was signed into law on Friday, March 18th by the Governor. The idea of making the Western Painted Turtle the official reptile of Colorado was hatched by several students from Skyline Vista Elementary School in Denver. The Colorado Herpetological Society congratulates and commends the students, the legislature, and the Governor for their efforts. |
